Linux Mint is a free, open-source operating system that's based on Ubuntu. It was first released back in 2006 and has become a go-to choice for people switching from Windows, because it just feels familiar. The desktop is clean and easy to navigate, with a traditional start menu and taskbar that won't confuse anyone.
What makes Mint special is that it comes with everything ready out of the box — browser, office suite, media players, you name it. You don't have to hunt around for basic stuff. It's also known for being super stable and not changing things up on you every few months.
Mint has three main flavors: Cinnamon, MATE, and Xfce. Cinnamon is the flagship and looks the most modern. The other two are lighter and great for older computers. Updates are straightforward, and the community is friendly and helpful. If you want a Linux system that just works without a lot of fuss, Mint is a solid pick.
